When I joined Konvex as VP of Engineering, one of my first tasks was auditing how our own team spent its time. The findings were eye-opening: nearly 30% of engineering hours were going toward building and maintaining internal tools — admin panels, reporting dashboards, data migration scripts, and operational workflows. These were essential for the business, but they were pulling senior engineers away from product work.
We decided to eat our own dog food. Over the course of three months, we migrated 14 internal applications from custom React codebases to Konvex-built equivalents. The results exceeded our expectations. What previously took 2-3 weeks of dedicated engineering time now took 2-3 days, and in many cases, the Konvex versions were better because non-engineers could iterate on them directly.
The 80% reduction in development time came from three main factors. First, Konvex eliminates boilerplate — authentication, permissions, data fetching, pagination, and error handling are all handled out of the box. Second, the visual builder lets you compose UIs in minutes instead of hours. Third, and perhaps most importantly, the feedback loop is dramatically shorter. When a stakeholder requests a change, you can make it live in minutes rather than filing a ticket and waiting for the next sprint.
There were tradeoffs, of course. Some of our most complex tools — like our real-time infrastructure monitoring dashboard — still required custom code. But Konvex's extensibility model meant we could write custom components and plug them into the platform rather than building everything from scratch. The net effect was a team that could focus 80% of its energy on the core product instead of operational overhead.
Six months later, the impact on team morale alone has been worth the switch. Engineers who used to dread 'internal tools duty' now spend their time on challenging product problems. And the business teams who use these tools every day are happier because they can request changes and see them shipped the same day.
